Barrier Arms & GatesVIP Security staff have been associated with Magnetic Automation Gates and Barrier Arm products for over 16 years. The Magnetic Automation range of products is well respected around NZ and the Pacific for reliability and functionality. VIP Security staff have been trained by the factory in the installation of the Magnetic Automation Cantilever gates and PBAU series barrier arms. This allows our team to install these systems to the same high standards as would be expected from New Zealands premier gate and barrier company. Our experience with Magnetic Automation products cover the following product ranges... Magnetic Automation Cantilever Gates Cantilever gates are designed for high use, rapid travel situations where total reliability is essential. The design contains all operating forces within a portal frame and balancing rail. An in ground track is not required.
The gate leaf is fabricated from substantial steel rectangular hollow section with a minimum wall thickness of 6mm. It has rigidity in both the horizontal and vertical planes and consequently offers high resilience should the gate be struck.
The leaf is supported by three heavy duty rollers, one within the portal frame and the others in a trailing bogie which traverses the horizontal balancing rail.
The portal frame also uses substantial rectangular hollow section, which provides vertical and lateral support for the gate leaf. A foot mounted motor enclosure with lockable weather cover mounts alongside the portal frame.
The gate may operate at a constant speed nominally 200mm/sec alternatively variable speed where soft start/stop sequences are separated by rapid travel between. Due to high inertia of the gate leaf a maximum speed of 600mm/sec is recommended. The variable speed is accomplished using a PLC and inverter frequency control.
The simplified portal gate offers a fantastic compromise between the full portal cantilever gate and price. VIP Security have installed many of these gates in busy industrial sites around Christchurch to great success. The main features of these gates are as follows…

Magnetic Automation Automatic PBAU Barriers The Magnetic Automation barrier is designed for controlling movement of motor vehicles into or out of restricted areas.
Powered by an instant reversing high duty cycle torque motor the barrier is capable of continuous use. The combination of the proven torque motor and a sinusoidal lever system provides a simple yet very reliable drive system that permits fast opening and closing times without bouncing of the boom in end positions.
The boom weight is exactly balanced by means of built in springs. Adjustment of spring tension for the fitted boom length is carried out in the factory however site adjustment to compensate for change in boom length or fitting of a sign is possible. A maximum boom of length of 6m can fitted.
The fabricated housing is comprised of a substantial galvanized steel RHS frame clad in 1.6mm thick stainless steel sheeting finished with an Epoxy powder coat. The stainless steel sheet cladding, including attached lid is removable on three sides to provide uninterrupted access to internal mechanisms. The system is ideal for harsh environments or in coastal areas.
Powerhouse for the barrier is the widely proven torque motor which is permanently energised. The motor stalls in end positions and limit switches and clutches are not required. The system requires 230Vac to power the motor and associated safety beams and microprocessor controller.
A microprocessor based logic control and vehicle detector are used to cycle the barrier.
Depending on the installation, either one of two loops are required, one for allow automatic exiting, the second to cancel the hold open cycle and close the boom (providing the vehicle has moved off the safety loop).
The barrier is traditionally fitted with a white painted aluminium tube 76mm diameter and carrying a reflective tape. An octagonal aluminium section is also available for heavy duty applications. A pendulum support is obligatory for booms over 4.5 metre in length.
Areas of UseThe Magnetic Automation PBAU series barriers, featuring its reliability and continuous usage, are ideal barriers to be used in high usages areas, or in particular, where maximum reliability is required. VIP Security have successfully installed several of the barriers at the Picton Ferry Terminal and Waikawa Marinas with great success and reliability.
