Network Video Recorders - NVR NVR's are the new video recorders for businesses and corporates. The main difference between a DVR and NVR is that...
1 - The images are transmitted over the computer network. 2 - The cameras are typically Internet Protocol (IP) based. 3 - IP based cameras offer superior resolution and future proofing. 4 - For an analogue camera to be recorded onto a NVR, it must be converted to IP using a special converter. 5 - Ease of expansion (simply wire to the nearest hub/switch). A great feature of IP Cameras is the high detail they offer, with models now offering 3-10Mega pixels of resolution. The benefit of this is amazingly clear images that deliver significant detail, resulting in faster identification. Most IP Cameras also offer microphone inputs and speaker outputs; allowing the operator to communicated with the subject - basically from anywhere in the world. This allows problems to be sorted remotely without having to dispatch a guard. With the continued increase in IP camera technology (which is replacing the old analogue cameras - much like Blu-ray is replacing DVD's); with a Cat5e cabled IP camera, your investment will be future proofed for the foreseeable future. So, even if IP is not for you, at least consider cabling it now (tidy cabling is often the trickiest part). VIP Security offers four systems of NVR - depending on the customers current and future requirements... MOBOTIX Mobotix is the largest and fastest growing MegaPixel IP camera company in the world, and VIP Security have 4 staff qualified in Mobotix. Siemens SiStore This system comes in three flavors All three systems can be monitored over the network with free client software. Alternatively, all systems can be viewed on a global monitor running IVM (Integrated Video Manager). Siemens SiPass has a free software interface to the SiStore NVR's and DVR ranges - allowing for a seamless integrated system. Sony RealShot We have several of these installations around New Zealand. The new Sony Realshot software (2009) offers more features, more robustness, better usability and 3rd party IP camera support. The Sony Gen4 IP Cameras have MetaData - a special processing of information (inside the camera) which allows for more cameras to be connected to the one server. The system requires a dedicated Server to store the images. DVTel Beware of IT Companies providing IP Cameras
An emerging trend is for IT/computer companies to offer IP camera installations. While there computer expertise is not in question, they do not have the in-depth knowledge to select the correct camera and lens for the required environment, nor transmitting the images in the correct Codec and recording this with the correct frame rate and compression. This is a skill learnt over time, coupled with supplier training. VIP Security have over 70years combined experience in camera installations and advice. Remember - IT cameras differ mainly from analogue cameras in that they transmit the images using TCP/IP LAN protocol - the majority of the design is governed by the same laws of nature (light) as analogue cameras. |
